Responsibilities

Ciorba Group is seeking a Water Resources Project Engineer with the following responsibilities:

Primary focus will be on:

  • Hydrologic and hydraulic analysis of floodplains and floodways, including bridge and culvert crossings;
  • Analysis of flood problem areas to identify problems, develop alternative solutions, and design recommended alternatives;
  • Stormwater system analysis and design for municipal and roadway projects, including conveyance, storage, and stormwater quality best management practices;
  • Design of soil erosion and sediment control practices;
  • The candidate will serve as the technical lead on projects, reporting to the Project Manager, and will manage other engineers and technicians to achieve completion of project plans but may also complete certain tasks independently;
  • Design tasks include calculations/models, report and plan preparation, quantity calculations, construction details, specifications, cost estimates, and other related tasks;
  • Work closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects;
  • Review and check engineering work completed by others;
  • Maintain positive client and vendor relationships;
  • Mentor staff engineers;
  • Will report to our Vice President of Water Resources.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering;
  • 8-12 years of water resources experience;
  • Illinois and/or Indiana Professional Engineer (PE);
  • Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) a plus;
  • Strong technical skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work well in a team environment on multidisciplinary projects;
  • Microstation proficiency; AutoCad experience a plus;
  • Experience with hydrologic and hydraulic models, including HEC-RAS and SWMM;
  • Experience on municipal and/or highway drainage design projects.

    Ciorba Group is seeking a Senior Construction Engineer who will have the following responsibilities:

    • Oversee inspection of local agency construction projects involving roadway and bridge improvements using local, state, and federal funding.
    • Prepare all construction documentation per IDOT BLR&S requirements using CMMS, or similar detailed local agency required documentation.
    • Measure and calculate pay item quantities, prepare contractor pay applications, and oversee preparation of construction record drawings.
    • Coordinate directly with the client providing daily or weekly reporting, preparing for and chairing preconstruction meetings, and responding directly to the client with project issues.
    • The ability to work closely with other team members and positively interact with the public.

    Required Qualifications

    • 6 to 8 years of construction experience.
    • Illinois PE
    • Certified in IDOT’s Documentation of Contract Quantities.
    • B.S. degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to learn through on the job mentoring and training.

      We have a career opportunity for a Structural-Bridge Engineer seeking to grow their career as a Technical Manager. As a Structural-Bridge Technical Manager, you will both self-perform and direct project teams in the planning and designing of the project. In this role, you will be a subject matter expert providing technical advice to staff, ensuring the successful execution of projects. 

      • Mentor and direct the advancement of the technical skills of staff while executing projects. 
      • Manage technical elements of a project, including assessing what analyses need to be completed and what is the correct approach (i.e. software, design assumptions, etc.) for that analysis. 
      • Communicate technical progress and issues to Project Manager promptly and continuously. 
      • Adhere to all internal procedures for quality control, documentation, and project tracking. 
      • Contribute to other project work as a technical specialist and/or advisor. 
      • Perform, review, and manage technical analysis and design. Take responsibility for the completeness of design details and ensure compliance with PQMP. 
      • Work toward being a leading subject matter expert on targeted elements within the discipline. 

      Required Qualifications

      • Master of Science in Civil Engineering (Structural).
      • Licensed SE in IL.
      • A minimum of 8 years’ experience in structural engineering with a transportation focus.
      • IDOT, ISTHA, and CDOT experience preferred.
      • Advanced knowledge and proficiency of software appropriate for the discipline.
      • Advanced knowledge of applicable codes and standards that govern the discipline.
      • Proven track record of mentoring and directing staff on technical skills.
      • Experience in MicroStation; experience in 3D bridge modeling is highly desirable.
      • Experience with Construction Engineering services is highly desirable.

        Over the years Ciorba Group has created and refined a robust Internship Program that provides students pursuing a Civil Engineering degree with the opportunity to gain knowledge and work experience related to the career that they want to pursue after graduation. The Internship Program is year-round, both full and part-time positions working with one of four project teams: Electrical, Construction, Roadway, Structures, or Water Resources. The selected candidate will be paired with an experienced engineer and will build essential, hands-on skills that will complement those attained in the academic arena and help to enhance the transition to a professional career. Other work will involve the design of pump station electrical systems, generator sizing and site electrical improvements. Responsibilities will include:

                      Ciorba Group is seeking an Entry Level Land Survey Technician responsible for performing a variety of survey tasks, including but not limited to the following:

                      • Assist in conducting topographical, boundary, and construction surveys in both field and office.
                      • Perform the necessary research, calculations, analysis, planning, and document preparations for survey field work to be performed.
                      • Assist in reviewing and processing the results of surveys including field notes, survey data, photo’s, plan markups, and structure inventory sheets to produce CAD drawings, charts, maps, records, and documents that accurately show the shape, contour, location, elevation, and dimensions of natural land features, drainage paths, man-made structures, roadways, and utilities.
                      • Drafting for Plats of Highway, survey base maps, boundary surveys and ALTA Surveys.
                      • Assist with project research.

                      • Other duties as assigned by the Lead Surveyor.

                      Required Qualifications

                      • Working knowledge of field surveying methods and calculations.
                      • Experience with or ability to learn, use, and maintain survey field instrumentation and software including data collector, robotic total station, GPS antenna, and level.
                      • Excellent organizational, documentation, and writing skills.
                      • Good Computer skills, Experience with Microsoft Office applications.
                      • Working Knowledge of MicroStation and or AutoCAD, or the ability to quickly become proficient.
                      • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills/positive attitude, and ability to work in a team atmosphere and maintain daily communication with team members is required.
                      • Enthusiasm to learn new skills and develop professionally, offer solutions, and maintain flexibility in support of dynamic projects and teams.
                      • Ability to manage time effectively, particularly within varying project schedule and budget constraints.

                      Position Requirements:

                      • May be required to drive company or personal vehicles to jobsites.
                      • Some performance of manual labor such as bending, digging with a hand shovel, cutting brush for lines, walking on uneven terrain, carrying equipment, stakes, rebar and other items that may be heavy (5-50 lbs).
