Responsibilities

Over the years Ciorba Group has created and refined a robust Internship Program that provides students pursuing a Civil Engineering degree with the opportunity to gain knowledge and work experience related to the career that they want to pursue after graduation. The Internship is a summer position working with one of four project teams: Electrical, Roadway, Structures, or Water Resources. The selected candidate will be paired with an experienced engineer and will build essential, hands-on skills that will complement those attained in the academic arena and help to enhance the transition to a professional career. Engagements will consist of office and field work and it is common for interns to get involved with a variety of projects. Our goal is to provide interns with a broad, well-rounded learning experience to relate within their field of study and to get involved in team work.

Required Qualifications

  • A junior in an accredited civil engineering bachelor’s program or a new graduate planning to start a Master Program in civil engineering.
  • Fundamental understanding of engineering concepts.
  • Strong technical skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Some experience with CADD, other engineering software and previous work experience will be a plus.

      WATER RESOURCES PROJECT ENGINEER

      Responsibilities

      Ciorba Group is seeking a Water Resources Project Engineer with the following responsibilities:

      Primary focus will be on:

      • Water distribution system analysis and water main design;
      • Wastewater collection system analysis and sanitary sewer design;
      • Sanitary and stormwater lift station analysis and design;
      • The candidate will serve as the technical lead on projects, reporting to the Project Manager, and will manage other engineers and technicians to achieve completion of project plans but may also complete certain tasks independently;
      • Design tasks include calculations/models, plan preparation, quantity calculations, construction details, specifications, cost estimates, and other related tasks;
      • Work closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects;
      • Review and check engineering work completed by others;
      • Maintain positive client and vendor relationships;
      • Mentor staff engineers;
      • Will report to our Vice-President of Water Resources.

      Required Qualifications

      • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering;
      • 10-12 years of water resources experience, including the activities described above;
      • Illinois Professional Engineer (PE);
      • Strong technical skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work well in a team environment on multidisciplinary projects;
      • Microstation proficiency; AutoCad experience a plus;
      • Experience with water distribution system and wastewater collection system analysis and design;
      • Experience with lift station design;
      • Experience with WaterCAD, SewerCAD, and other hydraulic models.

        ELECTRICAL PROJECT ENGINEER

        Responsibilities

        Ciorba Group is seeking an Electrical Project Engineer with experience in the design of Lighting, Electrical, Traffic Signal and Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) improvements. Projects will consist of the study and design of roadway and site lighting, traffic signals for State and municipal clients, and ITS improvements for public agencies. Other work will involve the design of pump station electrical systems, generator sizing and site electrical improvements. Responsibilities will include:

        • Preparation of plans, specifications and cost estimates as well as preliminary studies
        • Supervising other staff on larger projects
        • Coordination with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects
        • Mentoring junior staff.
        • Review and check engineering work completed by others
        • Maintain positive client relationships
        • Manage schedules and deadlines on multiple projects

        Required Qualifications

        • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Electrical Engineering
        • 6-12 years of experience
        • Illinois PE or the ability to obtain within 24 months
        • Strong technical skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work well in a team environment on multi-disciplinary projects
        • MicroStation proficiency
        • Experience on IDOT and Illinois Tollway projects preferred, CDOT and INDOT experience a plus

            INDIANA REGIONAL MANAGER

            Ciorba Group is an established multi-disciplinary civil engineering firm with a focus on transportation projects. We have offices in Chicago, Peoria, and Crown Point. We have been engaged in work in Indiana and with various INDOT Districts and the Central Office since 2016. We are currently looking to establish an office in Indianapolis to better manage our Indiana operations and support our growth in the State and in the Indianapolis Metro area.

            Responsibilities

            We are looking for a Regional Manager who can lead and help us develop our Indiana operations and a new Indianapolis office. The selected candidate will supervise staff working on engineering services on our current INDOT projects as well as with local agencies, and private clients throughout Indiana. With the support of our Management Team, the Manager will also continue to develop new clients and prepare proposals for potential new projects.

            Besides technical abilities and familiarity with INDOT standards, the individual chosen for this position must have strong leadership qualities, good written and verbal communication skills, and be able to work well in a team environment on multi-disciplinary projects.

            Required Qualifications

            • Bachelor of Science or degree in Civil Engineering, Master a plus.
            • Indiana Professional Engineer license.
            • 15 or more years of experience working on INDOT, and Indiana LPAs transportation projects.
            • Ability to supervise, direct and mentor engineers.
            • Experience with the City of Indianapolis is a plus.

              RESIDENT ENGINEER

              Responsibilities

              Ciorba Group is seeking a Resident Engineer who will have the following responsibilities:
              •  Oversee inspection of local agency construction projects involving underground utility improvements (water, sanitary and storm) using local, state, and federal funding.
              •  Experience in the inspection of utility facility improvements is a plus, including lift stations, reservoirs, and pump stations.
              •  Prepare all construction documentation per IDOT BLR&S requirements, or similar detailed local agency required documentation.
              •  Measure and calculate pay item quantities, prepare contractor pay applications, and oversee preparation of construction record drawings.
              •  Coordinate directly with the client providing daily or weekly reporting, preparing for and chairing preconstruction meetings, and responding directly to the client with project issues.
              •  The ability to work closely with other team members and positively interact with the public.

              Required Qualifications

              • 8 to 10 years of construction experience.
              • Certified or have the ability to be certified in IDOT’s Documentation of Contract Quantities.
              • B.S. degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management.
