Responsibilities

Over the years Ciorba Group has created and refined a robust Internship Program that provides students pursuing a Civil Engineering degree with the opportunity to gain knowledge and work experience related to the career that they want to pursue after graduation. The Internship Program is year-round, both full and part-time positions working with one of four project teams: Electrical, Roadway, Structures, or Water Resources. The selected candidate will be paired with an experienced engineer and will build essential, hands-on skills that will complement those attained in the academic arena and help to enhance the transition to a professional career. Engagements will consist of office and fieldwork and it is common for interns to get involved with a variety of projects. Our goal is to provide interns with a broad, well-rounded learning experience to relate within their field of study and to get involved in teamwork.

Required Qualifications

  • A junior in an accredited civil engineering bachelor’s program or a new graduate planning to start a Master Program in civil engineering.
  • Fundamental understanding of engineering concepts.
  • Strong technical skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Some experience with CADD, other engineering software and previous work experience will be a plus.

        Ciorba Group is seeking a civil and/or electrical engineer to work on a variety of lighting, traffic signal, intelligent transportation system, and other transportation related project assignments as part of our Electrical Group working with multi-disciplinary teams on a variety of projects of different sizes and complexity. Responsibilities include:

        • Field investigation, system design, plan preparation, utility coordination, quantity calculations, and estimates.
        • The candidate with work closely with other engineers to prepare overall project deliverables and complete independent tasks as directed by the Project Manager.

        Required Qualifications

          ELECTRICAL PROJECT ENGINEER

          Responsibilities

          Ciorba Group is seeking an Electrical Project Engineer with experience in the design of Lighting, Electrical, Traffic Signal and Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) improvements. Projects will consist of the study and design of roadway and site lighting, traffic signals for State and municipal clients, and ITS improvements for public agencies. Other work will involve the design of pump station electrical systems, generator sizing and site electrical improvements. Responsibilities will include:

          • Preparation of plans, specifications and cost estimates as well as preliminary studies.
          • Supervising other staff on larger projects.
          • Coordination with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects.
          • Mentoring junior staff.
          • Review and check engineering work completed by others.
          • Maintain positive client relationships.
          • Manage schedules and deadlines on multiple projects.

          Required Qualifications

          • Bachelors degree in Civil or Electrical Engineering.
          • 6 to 12 years of experience.
          • Illinois PE or the ability to obtain within 24 months.
          • Strong technical skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work well in a team environment on multi-disciplinary projects.
          • MicroStation proficiency.
          • Experience on IDOT and Illinois Tollway projects preferred, CDOT and INDOT experience a plus.

                  TECHNICIAN I

                  Responsibilities

                  A Technician I may work on several projects at one time. Tasks performed require knowledge of basic drafting fundamentals relating to design and construction with immediate supervision needed. A Technician I will assist in developing preparing design plans, assist in performing topographic surveys, or serve as a construction inspector.

                  The following duties apply to a Technician I:

                  • Responsible for understanding the work assigned to them or asking their supervisor to clarify the assignment.
                  • Responsible for the quality of their work and meeting the budgeted and scheduled time frame to complete an assignment.
                  • Maintain proper filing, documentation and drawing conventions/standards as established by Ciorba Group.
                  • With training, expected to become proficient in the use of a computer for design plan preparation and work efficiently in various software programs including CADD.
                  • Assist in performing topographic surveys.
                  • Work overtime to complete assignment when directed by supervisor.
                  • Be able to safely operate a company vehicle.
                  • Conduct oneself in a reasonable and safe manner in the field, including construction sites.
                  • Maintain a neat and organized work area.
                  • Perform a thorough review of work before turning in assignment to supervisor.
                  • Maintain assigned billability rate and may work overtime as directed by supervisor on an as needed basis.
                  • Other duties as may be assigned, both temporary and permanent.

                  Required Qualifications

                  • Currently pursuing Associates degree or Technician Certification, Associates degree is not required.
                  • Microstation experience strongly preferred.
                  • AutoCad experience a plus.
