I-80 at US 30 Interchange Reconstruction |Will County IL

IDOT broke ground on the $47 million I-80 at US 30 Interchange Reconstruction project last week.  Ciorba Group was initially awarded the design engineering contract for this interchange project in 2009, but the project was shelved near the completion of the design plans due to funding issues.  After a team effort on the part of federal, state, and local agencies as well as elected officials to secure funding, Ciorba was able to update and finalize the plans and specifications with the latest IDOT standards. The new interchange will enhance traffic safety and operations by expanding I-80 to three lanes in each direction, introducing new ramp alignments and geometrics, reconstructing and widening US 30, replacing and widening the I-80 bridge deck over US 30, modernizing traffic signals, installing new high mast lighting, and improving the existing drainage system. Multi-modal improvements were also made by replacing the old pedestrian bridge that carries Old Plank Trail over I-80.  More at Chicago Tribune: https://trib.in/2N78v8W
