Ciorba Group provided preliminary engineering, and final design plans, specifications and cost estimates for a new pedestrian bridge over Lake Shore Drive over 47th Street. The bridge is 145 feet long, spans northbound Lake Shore Drive and consists of welded pipes assembled in the shop. The entire truss had only one field splice that was completed prior to the erection and installed at the final location in a single pick during a temporary night closure of northbound Lake Shore Drive in Chicago. The project received the 2007 Best Small Project Award from the Structural Engineers Association of Illinois (SEAOI), the 2007 Special Achievement Award from the Illinois section of the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC), and the 2007 Public Works Project of the Year Award for Structures from the American Public Works Association (APWA), Chicago Chapter.
