Ciorba developed contract plans, specifications, and cost estimates to replace 8,500 lineal feet of existing 8-inch diameter water main pipe along Martin Luther King, Jr. (MLK) Drive and Sheridan Road. The new water main was increased in size (to 12-inch and 16-inch diameter pipe) based on a hydraulic model. The replacement was necessary due to the existing main’s poor condition and to increase capacity for proposed redevelopment in the area.
The project was divided into two phases—requiring separate plans, specifications, cost estimates, bid documents, and permitting. In 2006, we completed the first phase along Sheridan Road between 2nd Avenue and MLK Drive. The second phase will be constructed in 2009 as part of the reconstruction of MLK Drive (from Sheridan Road to Green Bay Road). This second phase will require boring under the mainline tracks of the E.J.&E. Railroad. Both phases require extensive monitoring for underground hazardous and special waste located throughout the area.
